Tip of the Month
You have a new group of students and you want to give them a positive start. The following ice-breaker is for you. It’s taken from “Lessons from the Learner” by Sheelagh Deller (Longman, 1990).
What I like about you is ...
Level: Elementary +
Time: It depends on the number in a group. For 10 people allow 15 minutes.
Numbers: Group(s) of 5-10.
Procedure:
- Get everybody sit in a circle. If there is only one group join in the circle yourself.
- Starting with the person on your left, Student A, say something that you like about the person, such as, What I like about you is the colour of your hair and your laugh.
- This continues in an anti-clockwise direction with each person in turn saying something that they like about Student A. When everyone has said something then Student A says something s/he likes about her/himslef.
- Student A starts the next round by saying something they like about the student on their left and so on round the circle as before.
