Tip of the Month

You’ve done everything you planned and you still have 10 minutes left. Here is how you can fill them and at the same time practice grammer (and vocabulary) with your students.

Connections

Level: Beginner – Pre-Intermediate
Time: about 10 minutes

Procedure:

  1. Draw two simple figures on the board – a boy and a girl. Ask the students to give them names and write these down underneath.

Tom     Helen

  1. Now write 4 - 10  seemingly unrelated pairs of nouns that your students have recently learned. Write these nouns in two columns. The choice and the number of words depends on what you want to practise and how much time you have. Here is an example:

guitar                apple
room                football
glass                 cat
basket              carpet

  1. Ask the students to make sentences about Tom and Helen. In each sentence they have to connect two objects, i.e. use the two nouns. For example:

Child 1: Tom plays the guitar and then he eats an apple.
Child 2: Helen writes homework in her room and then she goes out and plays football.

Variations:
Instead of writing words you can use flashcards.
You can practise different tenses.
